This was my first experience of what a wildfire, a almost constant threat in the west, can do to a old growth forest. The beauty caught my eye, glimmering in the summer sun.
A hike in a local canyon revealed its previous life, a ancient sea bed. The red rocks Colorado are famous for are here becuase of this sea bed beginings.
The red rocks around Colorado Springs attract many visitors. Including Flat Stanley from my little cousin, because I was going be the farthest away.
This connection was very important to my family. The Air Force Acedemy has a monument to my Papa Wolff who passed away the year I moved out here.
This is from a hike I took to Ptamigan Lake. I was alone on the trail for most of the trip and it was a perfect day.
