I snapped this photograph of a girl (and was nearly arrested in the process) who is smiling as she is doing something few girls in her region do – she is going to school.
A school crossing sign in Guinea, a French-speaking country in Sub-Saharan Africa. Guinea is especially vulnerable to climate changes; sometimes the children cross this street when it is flooded, other times there is a drought.
The children at this school face an uncertain future – will we make environmentally responsible choices to help them achieve a better life?
People place fruit on the table so the school children will have something to eat while they study. Guinea is desperately poor, but the people are the most generous I have ever met.
